In the in situ exhibition “A new frame,” I reflect on a pending residency.  The setting is my childhood home from the sixteenth century in the heart of Antwerp city. In 2018, I inherited this property from my father, painter Jan Peeters, who was also the principal and teacher in drawing and painting at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Antwerp.
I cleared the house completely to start from scratch. Under the guidance of visual artist Filip Vervaet and Caroline Van den Eynden, I worked on assemblies, insitu interventions and photos for three years. Elements from the house were integrated, such as wall prints to door frames and roof beams that got repurposed. Sunlight plays an active role in the scenography.
A poetic tribute about the passage of an painter and the limited time one has to create.
